Great Book for the Baseball Fan
Love this book! It’s got a little bit of everything a baseball fan would want. 2024 season review and statistics, 2025 season preview (of all 30 teams) written analysis, some advanced statistics, essays and player rankings (current MLB players only). The writing is concise, informative and humorous at times (reminds me somewhat of the Bill James Abstract). I aways like having a physical book or magazine that I can reference throughout the season and about the only one left is Lindys Baseball Preview magazine so I’m glad I discovered the book and hope it continues to be published in the future!

The Sequel!
I truly enjoyed the inaugural edition in 2024, and the 2025 edition is just as excellent. It’s smart and research-based but still highly accessible. The rankings, essays and analysis complement each other well. It also doesn’t take itself too seriously. A great read that I’ll refer to throughout the season. Already looking forward to 2026.

What a fun read! I am thoroughly enjoying the book, the writing is really good. David seems like the kind of guy with whom you could randomly sit down at the bar and have the best baseball discussion you’ve ever had.With the best possible intentions, I could describe this as Baseball Prospectus lite. Stats are there, info is there, stories are there, but presented in a way that makes me want to sit and read and not feel like I’m studying for an exam.Kudos! I only wish I had seen last year’s edition…well…last year, but I am definitely going to pick it up anyway as well.

Entertaining and informative
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a throwback to the old-school Bill James annuals, with maybe a little less analysis. Could have used a copy editor, though “Emmanuel Clause” (should be “Clase”) and “Luis Roberts” (should be “Robert”) make frequent appearances, alongside a bunch of other typos/spelling errors/incorrect word forms. Fun read, and I’ll buy the 2026 version as soon as it is available.

Excellent book. Full of statistics, but the best features are short humorous essays. They are spot on and a joy to read.

Baseball Obsucra 2025 is a fresh look at what happened over the course of the 2024 baseball season and unique insight into the direction teams are heading as we start spring training 2025. Excellent essays on experiencing baseball in Japan and the last day of the Oakland A’s baseball. A great look at how the Tigers went from being sellers at the trade deadline to making the playoffs while using an opener/Skubal rotation. New in this year’s addition are rankings for players by position as well as 100 pitchers. Growing up as a baseball fan I had access to Beckett Baseball Card Monthly, Bill James Abstracts and Baseball Weekly today I now, thankfully, I have Baseball Obsucra.

I loved this book in 2024 and fell in love all over again in 2025. Read every single word of both and enjoyed every syllable. If you want smart, thoughtful and challenging baseball writing this is the book to buy. I go back to the old Bill James books and this effort is at, or very close to, that level. It will be my go to baseball yearbook for as long as Mr. Fleming wants to make the effort. Just terrific. Buy it and one for a friend too!

Good book but too many typos
The analysis is solid but I can’t get past all the typos. It feels like nobody proofread this book. Several areas reference 2004 or 2014 figures when the author means 2024. It misspells star players’ names like “Carbon” Carroll and Emmanuel “Clause,” to name a few. Good book but typos throughout hurts the author’s credibility.

Only in its second year but now it’s easily my most looked forward too baseball read. Had the book for over a week now and read it cover to cover, amazing read and for UK based fans who didn’t get the opportunity to sadly grow up with baseball as part of their daily lives …it’s an intriguing read and easily understood even as new ideas and challenges are posed.The other amazing thing is I pull it out so many times during a season to see what David thought about certain playersAmazing ….
