It works but it’s limited due to bad thermals & tight spaces…
You should definitely install a VRM heatsink & replace all the thermal paste with a fresh one (I installed a Corsair H60 120mm AIO water-cooling system for the CPU on a push/pull configuration, because it tends to throttle down due to high temperatures)! ! Overall, that fixed the problem but still you can’t overclock anything but the GPU using Nvidia’s Experience Driver software or a 3rd party one like MSI’s Afterburner. But you’re still limited to motherboard’s physical limitations.Overall: if I didn’t have to make an extra investment of what they should’ve done in the first place… I’d give it 4 stars!

Never worked right out of the box.
Bought in October 2021 did not work right out of the box. Had a technician come out install a faulty motherboard. Then had to send to Houston depot for technician to fix. Came back working even worse. Now March 2022 working with Alienware for a “refurbished/like” replacement don’t have a conclusion yet. $3,400 paper weight as of today.

Hot Mess!!!
We just received a new R12 purchased during Black Friday at a substantial discount. The system is an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11700F, RTX 3060Ti, 512GB M.2, 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz all of this for only $980 (without tax) with discounts! This was an insane deal. Unfortunately, the air-cooled option was not available for the system deal. We have the Dark Side of the Moon cool which does not have the same lighting options as the White system. This is fine as the system would be positioned such that the lights would not be seen. The system looks good but like many have mentioned it has cooling issues. We have the system raised on a mesh stand with plenty of room for cooling. We first noticed the fans making a clicking noise while idling! I checked to make sure all fans are working and they are. We completed all updates and with nothing running while on idle the system CPU keeps jumping from 62° to 100° Celsius while the CPU performance is bouncing around the lowest to the highest. This is occurring while the system is idling without anything installed yet and no overclocking! Not a good omen. Also noticed there are no VRM heatsinks installed on this unit which could account for some of the CPU heat. The stock CPU fan is anemic. The interior design is small and will not fit a stock RTX card if you wanted to upgrade it. It is not a system to upgrade over time but again at the $980 price point, I didn’t care. If we could have purchased a water-cooled system at the reduced price point we would have and I believe the design hinders the ability of the system to adequately air cool it. It is noisy when it kicks in cooling. What is surprising we were running a Lenovo Legion 7i notebook on the desk with a docking station (10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor, NVIDIA RTX2070 Max-Q) at full settings in games and couldn’t hear it but the R12 is like a fan running on high! Again we are so disappointed and will go back to using the Legion 7i.

price
So I don’t own this, just trying to save others from making a huge mistake. It is currently July 14th 2022, and the price of this machine is >$2k. That is absurdly overpriced considering only 512gb storage and most of all, an 11TH GEN i7!…. There are comparable machines out there with 12th gen i7 and 1Tb of storage for less. I’d really consider going Ryzen to save even more. Do not buy this at this price.

Cheap worthless paperweight
#Dell will steal from you. My 17R2.motherboard failed after 3 years, I sent it in to repair it cost 300 got it back with deep scratched lid and lights not working, sent back then it came back with the mic and G,H keys broke and missing a M.2 stick and the battery not working. They where going to send someone to fix it, never came so I called them and it’s was out if warranty from the MB so I have to pay them a service fee plus parts!!! DONT TRUST DELL
