First three quarters were awesome, last quarter felt rushed.
I would like to start off by saying that Jeff Kinney has always been my favorite author. I have read every one of his books before this one. But Book 16, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid Big shot,” was one of my favorites. I loved that it was based on sports because I am a person who loves sports and it was just something that I could relate to.The pros of this book were that it was very intriguing and funny. Jeff Kinney really executed making Greg, a clumsy middle school kid in this book. The beginning was just amazing! Greg’s mom and dad kept on trying and trying to get him into sports until he tried out for the middle school basketball team and made it! Except, on a horrible team. They kept on losing and losing in a tournament for the worst of the worst teams. Then they made it to the final game, and Greg hit the game-winning shot backwards! I liked how Jeff Kinney let them win because if they didn’t win, the book wouldn’t have felt as complete. Now for the cons of the book. I didn’t enjoy the last quarter of the book as much because it was kind of repetitive on how they kept losing. I just wish that Kinney could have spiced it up as he did in his last fifteen books. Another thing I disliked was that it felt rushed. The ending of the book just made it seem that Kinney had run out of ideas. All they did was go out for ice cream after the win. Like come on, he definitely could have made it better. What I would have done differently was show how Greg’s dad felt and maybe he would have been proud of him because he and his dad never really connected. It would have made the reader more emotionally connected to the book.In all seriousness though, Jeff Kinney is an amazing author and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone that likes graphic novels and even sports!

Watch out for some too mature language /theme for younger children
Pros: Engaging Format: The combination of diary entries and comic-style illustrations makes the book easy and fun to read.Cons: Mature Themes: Some parents might find the humor and themes a bit too mature for younger children
