Great budget 9 speaker Atmos reciever
Good:- Dirac Live. If you need to drive 9 speakers and you want Dirac Live then its this or a Denon which costs $2000 after you add up all the firmware upgrades you have to pay for. I have experience with Audessey XT32(Very good) and Yamaha YPAO(Terrible, avoid!) room correction. Dirac Live is absolutely incredible at making things sound pure and natural. Go through the 9 position microphone setup, its worth the time.- setup for is easy. Manual is well written.Bad:- It runs hot. The manual recommends 8″ clearance above and 4″ to each side for ventilation. This really narrows you choices when deciding where to put it if in a cabinet. I chose to put it on top so it will breathe easily.

    FANTASTIC A/V RECEIVER.
I’ve only owned Pioneer Elite A/V recievers for the past 25 years. I wanted to update my last Elite A/V and this Onkyo was on sale for a price I couldn’t resist, and I don’t care that a new model is out. The reviews seemed like this woulld be a good fit for my needs.Set-up was a little confusing. I printed the 175 page manual and the diagrams for selecting speaker size placement is a bit confusing. However after figuring out which diagram was most similar to my speraker placement, using the microphone was a breeze. I also set up a Zone 2 which I could never figure out with the Pioneer. After my 15yr old speakers were calibrated, and unfortunately only 5.1 because I don’t have room for more speakers, the sound was amazing. (Focal Chorus 826v front, Chorus CC800v center, Martin Logan Dynamo sub, Infinity ceiling surround speakers). The first thing I always watch to evaluate any new receiver, is the shootout after the bank robbery in the movie Heat. This reciever really put out great sound. Then I had to listen to some of my favorite songs from Boston, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Yes, VH, and Pink Floyd. All I can say is wow. This reciever can easily power my spekers, and it was so crisp. My kids had to come out of their rooms upstairs to tell me to turn down the volume. This is my first Onkyo reciever. I don’t know why I never considered this brand before. I think I’ll be loyal to Onkyo for the next 20+ years.

    Sounds great.
Just received my Onkyo TX-NR 7100, watched a few YouTube videos before it arrived, so set up was easy. Ran accuEQ, I am getting new front speakers so I’ll wait to run Dirac. After accuEQ, I still had to make a few adjustments, to the speaker levels and especially the sub. It set my subwoofer way too low. As of right now having no problems with Bluetooth. I’ve only listened to music so far, can’t wait to watch a movie. For now I have a 5.1.2. System, getting new fronts, the Klipsch r51-m’s will go to the rear surround and Klipsch r41-m’s will be my height speakers in a 5.1.4 system. So far loving this avr.Update 2: Just calibrated with Dirac for the 6th time. They tell you if you sit in a recliner, reclined measure with it reclined. Well I measured with the chair in its upright position. It makes a huge difference I hear the surrounds much better. Btw I listen to all channel stereo, I know audiophiles say it sucks, however I listened to 2 channel stereo for 20 years, when there was nothing else. I didn’t buy a 9 channel avr to listen to 2 channel stereo. Like Randy the cheap audio man says “ audiophiles aren’t always right. If it sounds good to you, that’s all that matters.” So try calibrating in the upright position, or if you sit on a stationary chair or couch, try positioning the mic slightly forward of your listening position. It makes a huge difference. Hope this helps, enjoy.Update:Ok bought Klipsch rp-600m speakers for the front with 52c center. 51m surrounds, 41m rear heights. Polk owm3 front heights. Why Polk? Lighter easy to hang and as height speakers they are only there for atmos. Ran Dirac live, the application does what it would take several hours to make it sound like it does, if I even could get it to sound so good. Apple TV 4K with my Hisense U8K. The google tv interface is ok, but Apple TV is faster and easier. The Onkyo 7100 is a gem, runs pretty warm but I have it out in the open. If you are going to put in a cabinet I suggest a fan. Very happy with the whole system.

The receiver is powerful and versatile
I am not a sophisticated audiophile and just want a powerful and versatile receiver. My old Onkyo receiver recently failed and this new Onkyo TX-NR7100 receiver checked all the boxes and more than met my expectations at about 49% off the list price. The receiver arrived on time and was easy to setup. Using DIRAC Live to optimize my 5.1 speaker setup was easy and effective with one major exception: even though I repeated the setup multiple times the subwoofer setup always resulted in -9.5 db sound adjustment, i.e. totally useless. I thereby contacted Onkyo customer support and they were very good about showing me how to adjust the subwoofer sound quality without disturbing the DIRAC Live adjustments for the other speakers. They were also very helpful in showing me some other setup features which are beneficial. Overall I highly recommend this receiver for anyone interested in great sound quality at a reasonable price.

I have given this item 1 star only for the fact that this item wasn’t advertised as the American version of the receiver, so this is relating to the voltage being 120 not the UK voltage of 240. This receiver has been available for over 18 months in the states and Canada and when correspondence amerged it will be available in Europe (240 voltage option) in Autum I kept checking various selling platforms. So checked on the UK Amazon site it was being sold I ordered 1, not very happy when it finally arrived and it was the 120 voltage version. I have sent it back (got a full refund), there is options to buy various electrical add ons so the 120 option is OK to use here in this country but didn’t want anymore bulky electrical boxes on show.

This my second Onkyo after purchasing a TX-NR797, 5 years ago. This 7100 receiver was relatively easy to set-up. The internet installed fast. The connections are plenty, however I wasn’t sure whether I wanted my Samsung 85 to be the brains or Onkyo 7100 receiver. I went with my Samsung for now. So now the EARC is running from television to receiver. Cogeco cable box and Sony 4K player are hooked up via Samsung. One big selling feature was Dirac Live. I waited until it was very quiet. I downloaded the IOS version on phone first but I couldn’t get the App to work properly. I troubleshot online and downloaded the Windows version. That did the trick. The audio sounds brilliant now. I have a 7.1.2 configuration. Klipsch fronts, centre and sub, Definitive Technology bi-polars mid-surrounds, Sony atmos ceiling speakers and Energy back surrounds. We watched the 4K Elvis movie. The sound was 100% legit, it is Man Cave approved. The Onkyo answered the bell with immersive sound. I have only begun to maximize the 7100’s capabilities, but to me this receiver is phenomenal value and comes highly recommended by me.

YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY! Having managed several audio stereo stores years ago I’ve never had an issue buying preowned electronics. If you’re going to have a problem, it’ll occur right off the bat or the first week. My budget was around $1000 for an A V receiver but I wanted to get one with DIRAC LIVE capabilities. Onkyo has one but it was priced around $1600 but Skadi Electronics had a used one for around $1100 so I placed my order. Steven at Skadi Electronics discovered there was an issue with the only one they had left and offered me an upgrade to a top of line Pioneer at no extra charge! This model retails for $2000! Skadi has proven that they stand by a policy of wanting to keep their customers satisfied.
