    Does what it should.
Works as it should, from a reputable brand, and holds a lot without being too expensive. Its about as fast as any other hdd I’ve had. Works well for photo/video storage and large games that dont need it all loaded at once. I wouldnt put an OS on it in this day and age, but thats just my opinion. Not sure what else to say.

SEAGATE Drives are the best, BAR NONE!
Ok…not only am I running an 8-drive array (34-TB) full of Seagates, but have to say that without a doubt, there are NO DRIVES that compare to them in durability!I’ve seen the stats, heard the hype, but then again, I’ve also moved PETABYTES across them for years, and have only had ONE drive failure in all that time! The problem with ‘testing and reporting’ is that no one reports ‘success rates’, and the drives that last for years if not decades never make the news…I won’t buy another brand…and Seagate can bank on that from a VERY dedicated customer!

    beware the non-warranty warranties
I purchased quite a few of these drives for cold storage of company data. Several of them have experienced extreme data loss events within 3 years of the purchase, but the factor I think people considering a purchase should think about is what happened when I contacted Seagate support to ask about warranty information. With every single drive I purchased, (4) 8TB, (2) 6TB, (1) 12TB and (2) 18TB versions of the drives from various vendors on Amazon, Seagate informed me the warranty had expired within 2 months of when I purchased them with some nonsense about vendors “holding” the drives for years in warehouses. Every single drive. Different vendors, same result with Seagate. This smacks strongly of Seagate trying to limit losses due to a technological fail causing the drives to not last as long as they were expected to. I’ve read articles about how the high capacity HDD drives that are filled with inert gasses like Xenon weren’t lasting as long as they were supposed to, I believe this is where that reality is translating into company policy: regardless of what they tell you the warranty is when you are purchasing them, the company is using cheap tricks to avoid actually having to uphold that warranty.Personally, I don’t really care about the drive replacement, it’s the data reliability that hurts. Most people, myself included, switched to SSD for main system storage over a decade ago. But I was still using HDD for cold storage, which I am reluctantly realizing is no longer something anyone with critical data should be doing. SSD storage is ~2-4 times as expensive, which pinches, but drives need to be able to last 5-10 years for cold storage to be viable, and I’m seeing 2-3 years on these drives. Do what you like, but I wouldn’t count on these drives to be as reliable as claimed in product descriptions, nor would I count on the company honoring the warranties if you run into issues. For me, at least, the age of HDD has come to an end.

Lots of storage for a good price
If you want super speed, this is not the drive for you, but being 5400 RPM, you should know that. I was copying data over from a 7200 RPM Toshiba and the drops in speed was noticeable. However, I want this for mass storage of video, pictures, etc. so I don’t need amazing speeds. Now the issue I did have was probably a Windows 10 issue because I all diagnostics showed the drive to be 100% ok. When I first installed the drive and tried copying files to it (through Windows Explorer and SynchBak), it would be super fast at the start and then plummet. Like to KB/ s. It was horrible. I tried a million things online to try and fix it and none worked. Finally some people said reinstall Windows. Now it is much easier to do a Reset with Windows 10 but since I had never done a clean install since I upgraded from 7 way back when, I opted for a totally clean install on my SSD. Once I did that, the drive worked perfect. Again, not sure why it struggled so much with just this new drive as I have replaced data drives in the past with no issues. But clearly something was jacked. Given what I read online, I don’t blame Seagate for this issue but I almost sent the drive back since it was driving me crazy and if the disk diagnostic from Seagate didn’t say it was fine, I probably would have. Glad I didn’t even it was the nuclear option to get it working.

Runs quietly, and no bad sectors after heavy use
So, I use this drive as one of three backup drives for my photography work. After months of moving large RAW files around, it’s shown no sign of wear. It arrived in perfect condition, and every sector was good. Now, it’s still silently purring away, with no bad sectors. It’s been a solid drive, which is exactly what I needed. It may not be the fastest thing ever, but it definitely gets the job done.

Tavsiye ederim
