For kids and teens who play casually the rubbery texture helps them emulate the players they see on TV. Most kids and teens are not 7 feet tall, and do not have ginormous hands to grip and palm the ball. Pro players play with new perfect balls on pristine indoor courts every game. Us, common people do not have that luxury. We play on driveways and concrete courts on the school playground. This is where the rubbery texture for grip helps even the playing field.
