#1 New York Occasions bestselling creator Joe Posnanski is again with a masterful ode to the sport: a countdown of fifty of essentially the most memorable moments in baseball’s historical past, to make you fall in love with the game yet again.

Posnanski writes of main moments that created legends, and of forgotten moments virtually misplaced to time. It is Willie Mays’s catch, Babe Ruth’s known as shot, and Kirk Gibson’s limping dwelling run; the slickest steals; the largest bombs; and essentially the most triumphant no-hitters. However these are additionally moments uncooked with the humanity of the sport, the unheralded heroes, the mesmerizing errors drenched in pine tar, and each story, from the immortal to the obscure, is instructed from a singular perspective. Whether or not of an actual fan who witnessed it, or the pitcher who gave up the house run, the umpire, the coach, the opposing participant—these are recent takes on moments so highly effective they virtually really feel like fantasy.

Posnanski’s earlier guide, The Baseball 100, portrayed the heroes and pioneers of the game, and now, along with his trademark wit, encyclopedic information, and acute observations, he will get at the true coronary heart of the sport. From nineteenth-century pitchers’ duels to breaking the game’s coloration line within the ’40s, all the way in which to the best trick play of the final decade and the slide dwelling that grew to become a meme, Posnanski’s illuminating take permits us to rediscover the game we love—and thought we knew.

Why We Love Baseball is an epic that ends too quickly, a one-of-a-kind love letter to the game that has us thrilled, torn, impressed, and at all times wanting extra.

Must buy for any true baseball fan
I have bought this book three times now. Once for my father, my son and my cousin. And now that I say that I should probably buy it for my other cousin as well! This is such a fun baseball book to read. Each page is filled with great nuggets of baseball history both recent and ancient! The author is one of the best and can turn a phrase better than most. Many of the moments he talked about had my son and I looking the moments up on YouTube to see the moments ourselves or to learn more. That’s how good this book is – it inspires you to want to know more!

    An Incredible Read!
One of the best sports books I’ve ever read. I’m sure everyone who reads this will appreciate the history of baseball in the author’s development of subjects and examples. But I think the older you are, and the more you have been drawn to the game of baseball, and the more you have lived and witnessed the players, the plays, the successes and the failures, the more you will appreciate just what a remarkable example of just – Why We Love Baseball!

    I loved it…
Excellent job by MrP!! I laughed to tears! I reminisced for hours. At times, I put the book down, and remembered stories of my own.Meticulous research. Players I’d never heard of. I especially loved the stories of the Negro Leagues: Satchel, Jackie, Cool Papa, et al. Thanks for including those stories.Of 10 stars, I’d rate this 9.98!! If you are just a casual observer, or a bit more… you’ll love this book!

    Why We Love Baseball
This was a fun books to read. The author included so much interesting trivia, I couldn’t wait to read the next chapter. As a Kindle book, I wasn’t able to flip to the asterisked footnotes as I read but did read them at the end of the book -definitely worth it. I didn’t read this book straight through, but it made for many good days of entertainment. For anyone who loves baseball this is a great read.

    Great Baseball Fun
Baseball has always been my favorite sport and even though those who control the game have attempted to ruin it and have to a degree, when played as intended, it a game of strategy and shouldn’t be rushed. I still love reading about it from the beginning of the sport till about five to ten years ago when I felt the authorities changed it for the worst. However, this book brought back several old memories and if you love the game is a fascinating read!

    Great read!
Of the probably 50 baseball books I have read over my life, this was the most amazing read. Posnanski is the Shelby Foote of sportswriters, the conversational prose heightens the enjoyment of the stories. His command of facts, through exhaustive research and personal experience, provides a sense of being there. The real win for me was conjuring up memories of the multitude of games watched in person, over the radio and television with my grandfather, dad, son and grandsons. Many moments lost in statistics, but not on me.Sorry for being so effusive. Again, thank you.

Baseball is a sport that is full of stories and characters. It is full of legends and stories that people can connect with. This book is great because whether you have to sit down and read for awhile or just a few minutes, you can still enjoy the stories of this great game.
