This review is for “S012 Pro” SSDI have been very reluctant to try this brand, not expecting the quality of well known brands like Samsung or Western Digital which I’ve used for years. But prices on those SSD’s have gone up a lot the last few months and being on a budget I decided to give this brand a try finally. I was impressed with a few things1. I really liked when I saw this SSD’s case was metal. Why? Metal dissipates heat way better than plastic but most manufacturers (who used to use a metal) now make the case out of plastic -cheaper for them but not as good for us. That is a plus for this brand.2. My Black Magic Speed Test was quite good. 500 for reads and about 460 for writes (2.5″SATA) Quite respectable.The S102 was reasonable, performed well and had good value. A very decent SSD.

Good and cheap!
I wasn’t expecting anything from this brand. I bought this item to revive an old laptop but fanxiang really surprised me. Well packed and few plastic and almost no paper envelope, which is a good thing. Once I installed windows 11 on it, the laptop works smooth and nice. I don’t give 5 points because it is too soon to know if is going to last. As I said in the title “good and cheap”

Really Fast, keeps up with fastest competition
A large network company controller uses a Intel Pentium N5030 mother board for a network controller as it contains a M.2 2280 storage but it had an unloaded (empty) SATA 2.5 drive bay. I dropped in a Samsung EVO drive into the slot and benchmarked with Win11 internal app “winsat disk”, and happiness with a 25% drive full and 250GB test file. When the FanXiang S102 Pro SATA III was dropped in, it tested to be 18% faster writing, same read, than the Samsung EVO, the Samsung supposed to be the fastest drive sold. BUT the FanXiang S102 Pro tested to be faster and is less than half the price. Given limited testing only 0.25TB file an 25% full. Didn’t find the ability to to hardware encrypt but don’t care as I use software OS encryption. It’s used to store Virtual OS and containers and years of network log files so it doesn’t get used a lot. The FanXiang S102 uses SLC as core and cache and some 25% TLC as long term store and Samsung uses DRAM as cache and TLC for store. Understand why Samsung runs hotter but it also should be faster but is not. Buy the 102 Pro over the 101 because it is just slightly more expensive but faster than the best rated Samsung in my application. I’m a silicon design engineer and fascinated by design choices. I really like the FanXiang S102 Pro design implementation. Save money and buy this design. Sometimes good designs need to be rewarded even if they come from a smaller company.

I have been using this drive for a few weeks. The time to boot is around 1 minute in total which is a little faster than the hard drive that it replaced. I thought that it would be a little faster, but it may be an issue with Windows10. The image above shows the read – write speeds. This is on an 8 year old lap top so it will never be super fast. Over all it seems to work fine and is fairly fast. It was very easy to migrate Win 10 to the new SSD. The first boot took a little while , but subsequent boots were much faster. I have had no issues with the new drive so far and hope it will last a long time with no problems.
