Best HDD for the PS4 For your storage needs
Have had this in my PS4 for over a year and works flawlessly. Love having all this storage space and not having to worry about filling it up after every install. As I rent and purchase numerous games, so the standard drive would fill up quickly. If you want a tad more performance but 1TB less space. You can go with the Seagate 1TB Laptop Gaming SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000LM014). I went for the space because of two reasons:1. When I got the drive, they did not make SSHD’s thin enough to get in the PS4 cage.2. Even if I decided to purchase one now. The speeds in comparison, are not enough to justify the change. Seconds are not worth it.3. You could also, go with the SSD. But, again…The seconds to me. Are not worth it. Plus, the PS4’s OS is not really optimized for the SSD TRIM and other SSD NAND functions to optimize the full potential of the speed of the drive.These are test results done by IGN from each of the drives: Standard PS4 HDD, Samsung 840 EVO-Series 250GB SSD, and a Seagate 1TB SSD/HD ST1000LM014 (one listed above). I realize that this is tested with the PS4’s HDD. But, they are essentially the same specs in read/write output on the drives. The only thing differentiating the two is the capacity of the drives. I just did not think that a couple of secs was worth spending another 700 dollars on an SSD for the same amount of space as a standard HDD. Also, as I mentioned above. If you buy an SSD on the PS4 and it does not enable TRIM on the drive because of it not having support. It can cause deterioration of space on the drive if not managed. So as an example, you put a game on the SSD, and it takes up 30 gigs. You decide you are no longer playing that game and want to remove it. It may be removed from the interface, but without TRIM, the drive will see it as “not in use”, but hold the space.

Excellent PS4 upgrade HDD and Super Easy Install
I purchased this HDD for one simple reason, I needed more space on my PS4, with Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight coming out I was down to 5GB of space remaining on my OEM HDD in my PS4. After doing some research and looking into buying a external drive or Passport and just cracking open the case to get the drive out, I decided to just get a OEM drive and save myself the trouble and frustration of breaking open a case and hoping I didn’t brute force destroy something. I wanted to write a review of this drive till after I had a full on week to test it and push the limits of it. So from being on for hours and hours, to moving and deleting files, and starting and shutting down games on and off, after all that I can honestly say the following about this drive.First thing I recommend doing before removing the PS4 faceplate that protects the drive and all, is to backup all your data, now since update 2.50 on the PS4 you can hook up a external drive as long as it is formatted in either FAT 16 or FAT 32, I tried doing it with format ext2/3 and it would not see the drive at all. So FAT 16 or FAT 32. Note if you are gonna backup the drive for a simply backup and restore the backing up phase takes some hours to complete, for myself backing up to a external enclosure using USB 2.0 it took for 376.4GB of data a total of 7 hours to back up. But it is worth it to do that first and makes the restoring phase take maybe 2 hours max.This HDD is almost the same one as the default one in the PS4 a Momentus – Samsung SpinPoint difference of course is that this is a SATA 6.0 and has a 32MB Cache over the 8MB Cache.I noticed a huge difference once I got the drive installed, restored and fully updated.Noticeable Differences Were:1. Faster Loading times on games off the HDD, games installed and running solely off the HDD ran faster and smoother.2. Drive itself was a lot quieter then the old/original drive, almost whisper quiet I would say and this is after varying loads, from starting and stopping games to running apps to downloading large files it was a lot quieter.3. Of course the biggest difference and the sole reason for buying this drive was the space you get after all the formatting and installing of the firmware, 1.76GB of free space that is when nothing else was loaded on the drive of course.The only downside I could see from this is the price tag, and that is relative as the price of portable personal drives as of writing have been under $100 or less is the only issue, but when you factor if you do buy one of those drive and open it up, you do void your warranty. So if you were too forceful, or a static shock or something on those lines happens well your out of luck.I highly recommend this drive for anyone out there needing more space for their PS4, it’s a great drive, comes in a straight forward packaging nothing fancy just the drive in a static shock bag. Super fast response times and super quiet makes this a must have upgrade item for a gamer that needs more space.

Eccellente disco. molto capiente e silenzioso, con la generosa cache di 32MB è ottimo come disco esterno per file multimediali. è uno dei pochi hard disk da 2.5″ di quella capienza ad essere 9,5mm..quindi lo potete montare sia in portatile che in box esterno (meglio se usb 3.0 e autoalimentato, io per esempio uso inateck usb 3.0 con supporto uasp (preso sempre su amazon) e vanno d’amore e d’accordo. dotato di AF (advanced format) è compatibile con qualsiasi sistema moderno, sia mac windows o linux.

Es heißt immer wieder die Platten sind jetzt alle von Seagate, da 2011 (glaub ich) der Deal mit Samsung geschlossen wurde…..Das stimmt natürlich hat aber in erster Linie nichts mit dem Problem hier zutun.Es sind sehr viele OEM Festplatten ohne Garantie im Umlauf. Diese haben eine andere PN Kennung als die mit Garantie und meist ein das Seagate Logo anstatt das Samsung Logo drauf.Die Platte die ich von Digitalix24 erhalten habe hat eine andere Endung, das Samsung Logo (und nein die ist nicht 6 Jahre alt das Produktionsdatum steht auch drauf) Herstellergarantie und funktioniert tadellos.Wer eine Z6 nach dem Schrägstrich bei seiner Festplatte findet der sollte mal bei Seagate auf der Seite schauen.Dort kann man nachschauen was man für eine Platte erhalten hat und ob diese Garantie besitzt vom Hersteller oder nicht.Anbei ich habe sie in meine PS4 verbaut – endlich genug Speicherplatz.
