    Short on resources
I had to buy a USB network adapter because the one supplied didn’t have the range to see my network at 30′.After a few weeks of use I noticed that Internet browsing was slow. It turns out that the OS uses over 6Gb of RAM from startup. But installing new RAM was cheap enough and easy to do.I also swapped the drive for a larger one.

UPDATED REVIEW: Bumped Up From 4 Stars to 5. Bottom Line: A Really Nice Mini-Desktop!
Update (November 02, 2020):Okay, I now have several months with this in use. Really like it. Especially for the price (as of this update the price is now at $599 – $100 under the price I purchased it at). So nice that I bought a second one.Would have been nice with an i7, but I’m not sure I can tell the difference for what I’m using it for (i.e., non-graphics intensive applications). So the i5 is just fine. Regardless, I think I have “achieved” i7-level performance by adding to the RAM. Btw, the 2TB m2 SSD “Drive D” add-on installation couldn’t have been easier/gone smoother. Honestly, a great little system.5 stars!Update (August 23, 2020; original review below this update):”Initial Huge Hurdle Cleared. Now A Really Nice Mini-Desktop. Fingers Crossed!”Okay. Turns out there was a problem with at least the drivers. After hours of initial set-up and trying to fix the faults it seems the Windows 10 installed image was “flawed” (not the recovery partition, the installed version it booted to). After submitting the original review I was getting numerous BSODs (“Blue Screens of Death”) every half an hour or so. And each BSOD was different; the system kept throwing a wide variety of errors. I downloaded HP’s Support Assistant and it had me update about a dozen drivers and one firmware release even after updating a similar amount (to include a firmware release) via Windows Update. But even after all of this I still couldn’t get the monitor to show a clear and non-distorted display resolution. So after numerous minor repair attempts I decided to reinstall Windows from the recovery partition. Yes, several hours lost, but it was worth it. Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro, then added HP Support Assistant (and updated), and then on to Windows Update (and updated). Now it seems I have a wonderfully running machine. No BSODs and the aircraft-level fan noise is almost completely gone; now the fan spins up when I would expect it to.Interestingly, I had expected the update processes after reinstalling Windows to be more or less the same from my first, “open the box and set up” experience. But no; there were very few updates via either the HP Support Assistant or Windows Update leading me to believe the image installed by the renewal folk was either wrong or a generic HP image. My point is not to encourage an immediate reinstall of Windows at box opening; rather, don’t be discouraged if you have the same result I did because I found a “fix” that might work for you. Then again, you may be more fortunate than I was and get a system that works right out of the box.At this point, I love this little desktop. I’m writing this review update as I wait for a 2TB SSD to be delivered (which I will then add to this mini-desktop as the data drive leaving the original 256GB SSD as the OS drive only). You might want to consider something similar as the OS, recovery partition, and some basic utilities (no major apps added yet) have already taken up more than 25 percent of the drive’s space (I’m down to about 180GB available!).BTW, update from Windows 10 Pro, version 1909 (recovery image) to version 2004 went smoothly. Also, the warranty claim by “USA Computers” was true: there is about 2.5 years remaining (system warranty started on/about January 24, 2020).I’m not going to raise my review up to “5 stars” just yet. But if things continue to go as well as they have since the reinstall I probably will.4 stars (trending toward 5).Original Review:”Initial Thoughts. Solid & Very Nice. But Two Annoying (& Potentially Deal-Breaking) Glitches”Am writing this initial review as I work on installing updates and setting up this new mini-desktop.My first impression is that this is very nice. But….For a “renewed” product it really exceeded expectations. In fact, had I not known it was “renewed” I would have thought it was brand new. I was surprised to see a new AmazonBasics wired keyboard and a new AmazonBasics wired mouse in the box. Didn’t expect that; thought all I was going to get was the mini-desktop. (That they’re both AmazonBasics products leads me to believe that “USA Computers” (the seller) is actually an Amazon entity. That the company listed directly under the item name on the product page says “Amazon Renewed” confirms that?)What I didn’t get (not that it’s a big deal) is the plastic stand the service and maintenance manual I downloaded from HP says I should have gotten. This stand allows one to place the mini-desktop vertically rather than horizontal (I plan to use it in the horizontal position; hence, why I said no big deal).Access to components to replace or upgrade is as easy as stated in the product page Q&A. A very well-thought out mini-desktop. I plan to avail myself of this when I add RAM and a second SSD; something I plan to do once I run this unit through its paces and ensure that it’s working.Speaking of “working,” I am NOT a fan of the aircraft -level of fan noise. It is REALLY LOUD. I’m hoping this is simply because it is doing quite a bit of initial updating, as well as an initial full security scan. If this is its normal behavior I just may have to send it back; it’s that loud and intrusive.I did get an initial BSOD (“blue screen of death”), but again hoping that was an initial “put into service” glitch. We’ll see.At this point, a solid “5-star” item that loses a star due to the fan noise and initial BSOD. I’ll be back to update as I can.4 stars.
