Digital Swiss Army knife!
Works well as my portable 2Tb SSD, and provides every connection I’d need for either my laptop OR my Fold 4! My only concern is the point of connection of the Type-C cable to the physical HUB. That will probably give out over time and need to be reattached. Other than that (which HASN’T HAPPENED YET!) it’s been an amazing “digital Swiss Army knife”!

Great multi-function purpose tool
It’s a great multi-tool device for the Apple laptops with the M series chips. Those laptops only have 2 USB-C ports so plugging in USB-A based or other accessories becomes a problem. And it’s portable enough, too

Fails on some occasions
As a hub it fulfills its function, but as an external disk it frequently fails. Lots of random disconnections.

For that geek in your life (even if it’s yourself)
My life, work or play, involves having my laptop computer nearby, or it involves helping friends and family with theirs. So far be it for me to deprive myself of the tightest, most compact collection of useful computer interface tools. This adapter is my Swiss army knife of tools for computers.Need a quick wired network connection to connect a USB-C based wifi only laptop to a wired connection… BOOM! Here’s a network port for you.Your Mom is having trouble connecting her SD card based digital camera to her computer because the camera’s USB port broke… BOOM! Slip that SD card into this adapter to get her pics (and then show her how her phone takes better pictures than that circa 2008 camera she still clings to).Getting tired of carrying all your software tools on countless USB drives, just so you can make sure you’re not missing that one obscure program when you need it, that will fix Uncle Bob’s computer issues (like just reinstalling the entire OS from scratch)… BOOM! Slap a 512GB or 1TB NVME in this adapter and store bootable live ISO files using Yumi or something. You didn’t (GASP) bring your laptop with you, but you need a screen bigger than what your USB-C based mobile phone has on it… BOOM! Plug this into your late model Samsung Galaxy phone, then connect it to the big living room TV via HDMI and look at that fantastic DEX desktop computer your phone just turned into. Awesome! Isn’t it?Those are just a few real-life examples I was able to implement with this. And yes, it does work to some degree with computers that only have USB-A ports. Just use a USB-C to USB-A adapter. I haven’t tested all combinations myself, but I suspect the HDMI and possibly the networking ports would not work well through a USB-A adapter. However, all the storage and USB hub capabilities work fine.I took one star away in my review because even though this device works well for interfacing with computing devices, it isn’t super fast for data transfer, and simultaneous use of some of its capabilities requires a need for a stronger source of power that may not be available on all computers with a USB-C port. I recommend keeping a good phone charger (65w or better) handy with you if you intend to use networking, HDMI, and other connected USB devices operating at once, just in case you need it. The adapter has a power port. But if you don’t mind those minor shortcomings, then scroll back up to the top of this long-winded review to where you see my four stars, grab a yellow highlighter marker, and color in that last star… BOOM! It’s now a five-star review, specifically tailored for you!

got this for the steam deck but…
so I’ll just start with my intention with this product was to get it for my steam deck as like a travel dock kind of thing and for that purpose it works great truly a fast durable product however there are a couple caveats first one is how misleading the pictures and the product description are if you want your nvme card to work you need to have at least a minimum of 65 watt power supply the one that comes with your steam deck standard will power it everything will work on it but the problem here is that it doesn’t tell you that anywhere in the description or anywhere you have to find that out the cord that’s attached to the product is really only kind of a pass through and the USBC Port is just for powering the device that it’s attached to or the device itself it does not transfer data you need to use the USB 3.0 to transfer data from one device to another but if you’re getting this product for the same reason I did which is mainly more to use up the nvme ssds i have but also to enough slots for your wireless mouse and keyboard and junk then its an amazing product but if you don’t already have at least a minimum 65 watt don’t waste your money don’t bother cuz they don’t really tell you that you need it to power the nvme otherwise perfect product for on the go perfect to go in between you and a friend’s house or whatever

I bought this to use with a spare 2230 drive that I removed from my Steam Deck. It turns out, this enclosure actually has no 2230 mounting screw hole despite being advertised as having one.I temporarily taped the drive in place to see how it would perform. What should’ve been a 1-minute test took something like an hour to complete because it was so incredibly slow. This isn’t an overheating issue, I’ve seen NVME drives perform far better this even without any heat sink attached. It’s also not a power issue, I had it plugged into a 100 watt Anker USB-C charger. There were no devices plugged into the USB ports at the time I did these tests.Just in case there was some sort of compatibility issue was with the specific 2230 drive I was using (or with my tape-down mounting method), I tested again with a standard-sized 2280 drive and my results were similar. This enclosure doesn’t perform well at all. The screw mounting system is also quite clumsy and should be redesigned. Look at how motherboards do it, it’s not complicated. The USB ports seem to work fine although I didn’t test their performance. I like the idea of the on/off switch for when the SSD isn’t needed but that’s the only thing this device really gets right.
