Good whistles. Loud abut not as loud as the Strom whiles which is a different design. These are the loudest I own in this thin ‘stick’ clip on design. I have 6-8 of this design over the years and just tested them one to the other and this one wins. The Strom is only about 15% louder but it is a lower frequency which can penetrate air differently. This whistle is okay. The pros are the orange color that make it easy to see in all lighting and backdrops and that it comes with both a lanyard and a clip for convenient access in an emergency. However, it’s not that loud. I tested it in the park today, and the sound is kind of breathy. I would estimate that it could be heard at a maximum of a half mile away. I’ll keep it though – it does carry further than the human voice, and I’m using it only for easy to moderate trails during the 4th of July week in Acadia, when the park is at its most crowded. So the distance heard isn’t so critical. But if you’re going into more remote areas, you’ll need a better whistle than this.
