An in-depth look into the origins of how every NHL group was named, acquired their brand and design, with interviews by these accountable. Written by these most educated, you may study why each hockey group to each play within the Nationwide Hockey League seems to be the way in which it does.
Nothing unites or divides a random assortment of strangers fairly just like the hockey group for which they cheer. The fervour they maintain inside them for the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Boston Bruins permits them to look previous any variations which might have in any other case disrupted a wonderfully tremendous Thanksgiving dinner and channels it into a strong, shared admiration for his or her group.
We embellish our lives with their logos, inventory our wardrobe with their jerseys, and, in some instances, even tattoo our our bodies with their iconography and colours. They’re so ingrained in our lives we don’t even assume to ask ourselves why Los Angeles celebrates royalty; why Buffalo cheers for not one, however two large cavalry swords; or why the Broadway Blueshirts named themselves for a regulation enforcement company in Texas (or why they even put on blue shirts, for that matter).
All that and extra is explored in Material of the Recreation, authored by two of the sports activities world’s main consultants in group branding and design: Chris Creamer and Todd Radom. Tapping into their huge data of the whys and hows, Creamer and Radom discover and share the origin tales behind these and extra, speaking on to these concerned within the choice processes and designs of the Nationwide Hockey League’s group names, logos, and uniforms, pouring via historic accounts to seek out and ship the solutions to those questions. Beautiful book
My son is a huge sports fan, he’s followed Chris Creamer’s website since its inception so he was excited to receive this book for Christmas. He read this book from front to back, it didn’t disappoint.

    Everything I could have wanted!
Not even done with this book yet (up to Quebec) but this has been everything I could have wanted from the book. The detail into not only the logos & uniforms but the origin of the team’s names as well, are explored in great detail. I consider myself quite a student of hockey history, but I am learning some new things here!My only wish is that there were more pictures or some sort of uniform database for each team, but the book is already rather large, I can imagine that was discussed, but then it would double in size. But there are several photos and mock-ups of past uniforms and looks throughout the years. This is the perfect book for anyone obsessed with the “look” of pro-hockey.

A Great History of Uniforms and Teams
I bought this book for my son and I to read together. He is so into NHL team uniforms and asks questions about the teams all of the time. I saw this and knew it would be a fun read for us. The book does a real nice job of telling the history of all present and past NHL teams. It goes into detail about how the teams were created, a little of their history, and the history of their names, logos, and uniforms. Each chapter is somewhat repetitive, but interesting nonetheless. If you are an NHL fan or a fan of uniforms and team history, you should check this book out.

An unexpected gift for my brother, a lifelong hockey player and fan
My brother was quite surprised and enjoyed receiving this book for Christmas. He’s a history buff, along with still playing the game well into middle-age, and was said he found it refreshing to have something that wasn’t stats or about players/rivalries/dynasties. He also has SEVERAL hockey sweaters that he can now bust out trivia on, especially when nobody asked.

This is an excellent history of National Hockey League logos, written by a fan of North American Sports Logos, who has turned his childhood hobby into a career. Very informative and very well illustrated, with each teams logo history explained in detail. I particularly liked the story of the Toronto Maple Leafs and how they were once the St. Patrick’s, with the logos. Some of the older logos are quite a bit more artistic than the newer ones.

We purchased Fabric of the Game as a gift for my notoriously hard to buy for Mother-In-Law. When it arrived, I noticed right away the quality of the book itself. The colours are bright and appealing. It would look nice even just as décor for a hockey-cave. My Mother-In-Law LOVED it. She is a die hard Montreal Canadians fan so she LOVED the section on their team, but she also enjoyed reading about other teams as well as the history of the uniforms. We’ve gotten her so many hockey-themed items over the years, from blankets to ornaments, etc. but I think this book is definitely at the top of her list.I would recommend Fabric of the Game to any hockey fan regardless of age.

This is far better than I had anticipated. Very informative with great pictures. A ‘must have’ for NHL / ice hockey fans. It’s also worth mentioning that the hardcover & print is excellent quality. Would recommend for sure.
