Works Great, total improvement over old Denon unit.
Purchased a Denon unit several years ago, it would not pass 4K through to My 75 inch Samsung 4K HG tv. This Soney Unit will pass 4K through, has a much better remote control, auto setup, and the sound reproduction is years ahead of my old Denon unit. I am totally pleased with this purchase. Time will tell how it stands up to almost continuous that our family will give it, but as of now we could not be more pleased with it.

Sony STR590 Multi Channel AV Receiver.
I am not one who does a lot of reviews on Amazon, but this Receiver is an exception. For years I have owned a Carver HR-772 Audio/Video Receiver with a pair of Large JB Lancing speakers (2.1-channel speaker system), and it has been a workhorse. However, as all thing electronic… there comes a time when they fail or ware out and that happed to my Carver. Therefore, I went on a hunt for a replacement as the repair cost most likely would cost more than a newer receiver. That’s when I found the Sony STR590. I also found a mixed set of reviews for it but eventually settled on the Sony STR590.Once I was able to install the receiver, did an Auto Calibration of the speakers, and a slight adjustment to the sound to match the acoustic of the room (Home/Sound Effects). From there on, I was good to go. My wife thought that the sound was better than the Carver. Now that is saying something. Happy Wife, Happy Life!I do have a few issues, and I will list them next.1. When I looked at reviews on YouTube, I was led to believe that the speaker wires were connected via Banana Plugs, which is not the case. There are a set of terminals that the speaker wires go into and screw down to secure the wires of the 2.1 speaker configuration. If you were to use this receiver as a 5.1-channe setup, the surround sound speakers use clip in system to the right of the main speakers.2. When the headphones are plugged in the receiver automatically switches from the speakers to the headphones. I would have like the have a way to change this on the front panel or remote as eventually the plug-in socket will wear out.3. When setting up the FM stations with the “memory” button I messed up and selected one (1) station multiple times. I was not able to find a way to delete them. Therefore, I have some stations on my preset list that I don’t want but can’t remove them. If anyone has found a fix for this, I would love to hear from you.Overall, I could not be more pleased to have my music system back and running…maybe even better than before.Bill

Poorly packaged/damaged but works great.
I’ve been using the receiver for more than a month now and there’s been no issues, works like new. The only issue is what you can see in the photos. The top of the unit has a large dent and while the receiver was wrapped in bubble wrap to protect against scratches, it was not secured in a box that was far to large for it. Any time the box was turned I hate to imagine the bouncing around that the receiver took. Hopefully it won’t lead to a problem in the future but I’m only giving this 3 stars because of external damage and internal damage that may show up in the future. Also worth noting that I opened a dispute to which the seller never responded. After a week of using the receiver I decided retuning the unit wasn’t worth it but to this day there’s been no response.

Brings the boom into the room.
I really like this unit. It sounds great, looks great and is great. It can be a little overwhelming, when using. The unit and the remote. But once you figure it out. You will dare to explore and invite the boom back into your room. I love it!
