    Fascinating and very readable!
While this book is formidable in terms of the number of pages (827!) one must remember there are one hundred stories – and each story is unique unto itself. I especially appreciated the wide range of baseball greats remembered in this book – many I did not know but came to appreciate. I am passing this book on to my thirteen year old grandson who LOVES and plays baseball and is already a fountain of knowledge on the sport and many of the players. I am sure he will devour this book! highly recommend.

    Must Read for Baseball Fans
This book is a collection of one hundred short essays about the players the author ranks as the top 100 of all time.I learned a great deal about players i have seen all my life and about players i have only heard of. I also learned a great deal about the Negro Leagues. Great and fascinating information, although i felt the author spent an inordinate amount of time on the Negro Leagues and racism in baseball. Not that he wasn’t right. Only that he seemed almost obsessive at times.Overall, this is a greatly informative and entertaining book. Very long, but well worth it. You can read it in small chunks to make it more manageable. Also, you can read from #100 to #1 (like i did), you can jump around as you choose or you can just read the articles about the players who interest you. Any way you choose to attack it though, if you like baseball, you’re gonna like this book👍👍

Great collection of stories about everything that makes baseball the great game it is
Got this as a x-mas present for my dad a few years back and he has absolutely loved it and still pulls it out to read passages from time to time, when he thinks about a player, or a specific memory described in the book.Really can’t go wrong getting this for any baseball fan you may know, as it has great historical content for older folks but still with enough recently modern stories to keep younger baseball fans interested.

    Pretty good book!
If you’re a baseball fan you’ll love this one! Joe Posnanski does an excellent job with each mini biography. He includes men from the Negro League that never got to play in the Major Leagues, and those were some of my favorites from the book. You get to learn so much about the discrimination they faced and how they handled it.It’s also fascinating to see where everyone is ranked on the list, and I’m sure that is something that people will debate for years to come. There were definitely a few I thought should’ve been a bit lower than they were, but I’m sure there are some that didn’t even make it on the list that people will be looking for.Overall, it’s an outstanding book, and I’d recommend it to any sports fan! I give it 4.5 stars.

    A Fun Read
Though the book is very long, it’s not like you need to sit down and read it from cover to cover. I read before bed each evening and I found that if I read an essay or two at a time it was a great way to wind down and always with a smile. It is also well researched and well written. I learned a lot about players that I have never heard of, and also learned a lot about many that I thought I knew.

Enjoyable Stories For the Baseball Enthusiast
I certainly enjoyed reading Joe Posnanski’s book “The Baseball 100.” I agree that part of my love since boyhood for baseball has always been the lore behind the players and an appreciation for all the numbers. I’ve always enjoyed debating the merits of one player over another with childhood friends when forming fantasy teams… Anyway, the book certainly introduces some new information and raised my appreciation for some of the game’s great characters. For me, it doesn’t matter if you agree with his ranking, but what does matter with any book, is that you’ll want to continue to turn the pages. I certainly found that to be the case. Overall, I believe “The Baseball 100” makes for a good read, or a great gift for any baseball enthusiast!

    Outstanding
A fantastic book. It’s refreshing to read a baseball book that is so well written. He devotes 5 – 10 pages to each player, and doesn’t regurgitate stats from Baseballreference.com. Oh, he refers to statistics, for example the five lowest draft picks to make the Hall of Fame were Nolan Ryan 12th round, Jim Thome 13th round, Ryne Sandberg 20th round, John Smoltz 22nd round and Mike Piazza 62nd round. It’s the stories, stories about the players, stories about the game and stories about history that make this book so good. More than once while reading this book, I’ve turned to my wife (who knows nothing about sports) and read her a paragraph or two, that really have nothing to do with baseball but with life.I found this book to be very informative, entertaining and at times very touching. It’s an easy to read book that I think you’ll really appreciate and enjoy.

I thoroughly loved reading The Baseball 100. Wonderful writing on baseball’s greatest players. It’s celebrates the players and the game while also fully recognizing baseball’s history and all it should be shameful for. Filled with mind-blowing stats as well as the stories of incredible human beings (and controversial ones too). Would love to read it a second time.

Joe Posnanski is incredible. His knowledge of baseball is so vast, his ability to tell stories is such an incredible talent and they work in perfect harmony in this book.Joe has taught me so much about the history of the game through his books and this is no exception. As a jays fan it was great to read about a couple of the guys that played for us as well as many of the guys that played against us. Additionally I learned about the history and stories of the Negro Leagues and their value and importance in telling the story of this great game.Keep up the great work Joe and thank you for all the stories!
