A Grand Slam Read for Little Sluggers!
As a baseball-loving family, this book was a no-brainer for my 7-year-old son, who practically eats, sleeps, and breathes baseball. The moment we opened The Berenstain Bears: We Love Baseball!, he was all in—just like he is when he steps up to bat in his Little League games. The story perfectly captures the magic of going to a baseball game—from the excitement of the crowd to the quirky ballpark snacks (my son now insists we need popcorn every time we read it). Papa Bear, as usual, provides plenty of laughs, and the mix of fun facts about baseball history with the classic Berenstain Bears humor made this a winning read for both of us.The best part? After reading, my son declared, “We HAVE to go to a real game this weekend!” Mission accomplished, book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I bought this little book for my grandson, who is just learning to read, because I remember Berenstain Bears books were good. I will not give it to him; I will throw it away. 1. The message seems to be that Papa Bear is the slave of the cubs (he misses the baseball game because he has to take them to the bathroom, and buy them food when they say they’re hungry. This is AFTER they immediately get presents when they arrive at the stadium!). This teaches children to expect to get everything. Then Papa Bear is made out to be a fool being the mascot. 2. There is a grammatical error, which is NOT okay when learning to read: “the family finds their seats” – “family” is a singular noun. AND, there are many words that are not an easy read, which will discourage beginning readers. e.g. “through, punched, laughs, anthem, whispers…” not up to standards. NOT recommended at all.
