It is a new, unused drive.
Drive came in a brown cardboard box sealed in the typical anti-static bag. First thing I did was test the drive with Crystal Disc. It showed it had been started twice before and had just a couple of minutes run time. Also no signs of tampering with the label to hide a “refurbished” sticker, etc. So this really is a new drive and not refurbished. About 750 MB of data (photos and videos) were copied to it and not a single hickup. Tested various videos and photos to be sure their was no corruption and all is fine. The drive is also very quiet. It is installed in a Sabret exterior portable drive case and after hours of loading data, the drive was barely warm to the touch. I would buy it again. Great price for a Toshiba quality drive.

My new 1TB Toshiba hard drive – love it with caution
This hard drive is fast (despite running at just 5400 rpm). It is an advanced format drive and I found out the hard way that you cannot install Windows XP on it because the OS is so old that it does not recognize the new set up for the first boot sector. It works fine in Windows 7 and Linux. I am using Win 7 Professional (first primary partition) and Slackware64 ver 14.1 in another partition. I bought the drive because my laptop’s original 160 GB hard drive is getting smaller and smaller with the space-hungry applications coming out these days demand more space. One word of caution: don’t count on Toshiba to answer your questions. I posted a question about the hard drive on the Toshiba website and still have not heard from them; I don’t expect to hear from them and hope I never run into warranty issues with the drive. Most likely I will stick with another hard drive manufacturer next time I buy another drive.

Worthy PS4 upgrade
Used to increase storage of PS4 , worked great. I went and did research on the difference between the 5400rpm vs the 7200rpm and found out that it’s only a 2-3 second difference in load times if that depends on what’s loading. Runs great more room perfect. I was a little bummed that after the os was reinstalled it leaves you about 863 GB’s for games. So makes me wonder what Sony was thinking with a 500 Gb in the first place? Leaving people with 363 GB’s 8-10 good games and it’s full for Pete sakes. As for this hard drive quieter than the original. and seems to run smoother when navigating around the home page. Games run the same.

Fast, And Reliable, a Terabyte and Silent, but not deadly.
I used this to replace a 750GB drive in my HP dv7 laptop. The installation was seamless. This new drive is faster, and much quieter than the old 750 was. I’ve used it for months now, and no issues at all! I would reccomend this to anyone, and will likely replace my noisy 1TB no-name security DVR’s drive with one of these so burglars might not find it as easily.

A bit slow but gets the job done and is quiet
This is a good value for its size but is a bit slow. This was purchased to store infrequently used files and is good for that. I would not want it to be an OS drive due to its speed though.

Does not say “OEM” or non-retail, but it is, and was shipped loose in box. Returned immediately.
I received these by way of being an idiot and not ordering them from Newegg.com like any responsible person ordering computer related parts should near almost always do.These are mechanical devices. I also ordered them because I need them to be reliable, or else why would I order them? So when I opened the approximately 16x12x4 inch box that these (I had ordered 2), and the 3.5 adapter came in, I was shocked to see that all three items, adapter (in retail box) and drives in worn out static bags, were loose, and stacked in the corner of the box. The corner of the box with just some blow-up packaging trying to keep them in place. The static bags themselves where incredibly warn out as if these drives were either underneath a lot of moving stock at Amazon, or had been shipped and returned before.Needless to say the only reason I ordered from Amazon is because I needed them in a hurry, and I am a Prime member. A mistake, and lack of foresight on my part that I am completely willing to own up too. That doesn’t excuse the method of packing used here. When I order from Newegg an “OEM” or “non-Retail” packaging item it comes safely bubble wrapped. This condition was so bad that I’d have to spend some $80 or so bucks on disk repair/correction/recovery software just to see if they were still good. Something I’m not willing to do for such cheap drives. So I immediately sent them back the day I received them. On the flip side, the return process, I have to say, was excellent, and kudos to Amazon for that at least. However, this is another case of Amazon not specializing in something that is specialized as well as not labeling their listed product correctly.I’ve lost track of the number of reviews I’ve read on Amazon complaining about how Amazon has combined like products or the item description is incorrect, or misleading. I guess this is just another one added to the list.
